Un pez, dos peces, pez rojo, pez azul
I mistakenly had low expectations for this book, because they translated the title word for word and, of course, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish doesn't sound clever in Spanish.
But the rest of the pages were carefully translated so that most of the rhyme schemes do work. Some are a bit of a stretch, but given how difficult it is to re-create a story that relies so heavily on rhyming and word play, this is an impressive result.
There is no substitute for a work in its original language, especially when the author utilizes the language in ways that are cleverly unique to that language. Dr. Seuss is certainly one of those authors. And yet, there is no substitute for Dr. Seuss. And this is a classic that is super fun to read in Spanish as well as English.
